Company Registration

Company registration, at the Dubai Land Department, is the step of entering a company in DLD’s system before it buys or sells property.

Definition

DLD’s Property Sale Registration page states that “The company must be registered by submitting a company registration request”. The Company registration application registers the company “in the Department’s system in order to obtain a reference number”; for a limited liability company it asks for the trade licence and the memorandum and articles of association, and foreign companies must be registered in a free zone in Dubai or Ras Al Khaimah.

What it shows — and what it does not

Registration with DLD lets the company appear as a party in DLD transactions. It is separate from the company’s trade licence, which comes from its licensing authority.

Example

Illustrative example: before a company’s first purchase, it registers with DLD using its trade licence and memorandum, then uses the reference number in the sale.
