Proof of Relationship
Proof of relationship is the document that shows how the giver and receiver of a property gift are related. DLD asks for it when a property is gifted to a family member.
Definition
DLD’s Property Gift Registration page lists “Proof of relationship” among its required documents: a marriage certificate for spouses and a birth certificate for children, each translated and attested by the UAE embassy in the issuing country and that country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs; for parents and children it also asks for proof of paternity or kinship from the client’s embassy in the UAE. For UAE citizens it lists a marriage contract or the Family Book.
What it shows — and what it does not
The proof shows the relationship DLD needs to see for a gift. It does not prove ownership or replace the parties’ identity documents, and documents issued abroad need the attestation steps before they are accepted.
Example
Illustrative example: a mother gifting a unit to her son provides his birth certificate, translated and attested, together with the embassy confirmation of kinship, before the gift is registered.
