Resident

A resident is someone who lives in the UAE on a residence visa and holds an Emirates ID.

Definition

The UAE Government portal states that “Emirates ID is the UAE Government-issued identity card for the UAE’s citizens and residents” and that “It is mandatory for all UAE citizens and residents to apply for an Emirates ID.” DLD’s Property Sale Registration page asks for the Emirates ID of both parties “for identity verification only; no copies are taken”.

What it shows — and what it does not

Being resident decides which ID you show at DLD; it is not a condition for buying freehold property.

Example

Illustrative example: a resident seller shows an Emirates ID at the trustee office, and the ID is checked without a copy being kept.
